Long - Range Fission Fragments from Radiogemc Lead ?
Fission tracks with a range 19% longer than tracks produced by uranium fission fragments were observed on mylar foils after a three year underground (100 m w. e.) exposure to 3600 cm2 of radlogemc lead. Ordinary lead which was simultaneously exposed to mylar foils under the same conditions yielded a background effect of only 3% of the effect from radiogenic lead. The observed long-range tracks ...
متن کاملLong-range energy-level interaction in small metallic particles
We consider the energy level statistics of non-interacting electrons which diffuse in a d-dimensional disordered metallic conductor of characteristic Thouless energy Ec. We assume that the level distribution can be written as the Gibbs distribution of a classical one-dimensional gas of fictitious particles with a pairwise additive interaction potential f(ε). We show that the interaction which i...
متن کاملA stochastic model of long-range interacting particles
Abstract. We introduce a model of long-range interacting particles evolving under a stochastic Monte Carlo dynamics, in which possible increase or decrease in the values of the dynamical variables is accepted with preassigned probabilities. For symmetric increments, the system at long times settles to the Gibbs equilibrium state, while for asymmetric updates, the steady state is out of equilibr...
متن کاملThermodynamics of a finite system of classical particles with short and long range interactions and nuclear fragmentation
We describe a finite inhomogeneous three dimensional system of classical particles which interact through short and (or) long range interactions by means of a simple analytic spin model. We work out the thermodynamic properties of the system in the framework of the grand canonical ensemble. We show that the system experiences a phase transition at fixed average density in the thermodynamic limi...
متن کاملMean first passage time for nuclear fission and the emission of light particles.
The concept of a mean first passage time is used to study the time lapse over which a fissioning system may emit light particles. The influence of the "transient" and "saddle to scission times" on this emission are critically examined. It is argued that within the limits of Kramers's picture of fission no enhancement over that given by his rate formula needs to be considered.
